Designer Home Tour: Inspiration from Designer Barbara Barry

Designer Home Tour

Touring homes through photos or in person can be a wonderful source of design inspiration.  The exquisite residence of world renowned interior designer Barbara Barry is one of those homes that inspire awe with glamorous traditional style.  The Beverly Hills’ home reflects Barbara’s signature neutral color palette and at the same time is warm and inviting.

Tucked in the verdant hills in a flat, park-like setting this exquisite residence is serene and totally private.  The classic architecture of the neutral exterior is accented by black shutters.  The grounds are also home to European style private gardens where the hedges form multiple intimate spaces.  The home is the perfect place to enjoy the quiet and serenity of the hills.

As an interior designer, Barbara has also designed several collections for everything from lighting to furniture. All of the collections reflect the quietly romantic, glamorously subdued style that has come to be associated with Barry. Items from the various collections adorn the home including a sofa from Baker, a cocktail table from Henredon, and a carpet from Kravet.

When asked about design elements in a bedroom on Remodelista, Barbara had this to say:

The bed is not the place to make a decorative statement, it’s the place to get restored and renewed, and nothing does that better than a good night’s sleep in fresh linens. As for the correct number of pillows: any pillow that isn’t being used for support or sleeping is too much.

That simple approach to bedroom decor is reflected in the bedrooms of the home. The rooms are simple in design and the perfect place to restore yourself at the end of the day.

If you are searching for more serenity, the bathrooms of the home are also a place to relax and unwind. A spa like atmosphere can be felt in each one with the neutral colors and custom detailing.

In an interview with Elle Decor, Barbara had this to say of her love of Augarten white porcelain:

I have had it for 30 years and still love it every day. Coffee somehow tastes better in its delicate, thin-rimmed cup.

The kitchen of the home is a refreshing white and those classic white porcelain dishes can be seen in the glass front cabinetry.

Throughout the home the hand crafted and carved detailed molding continue the timeless design. Each room is a reflection of the classic Barry style with custom details and that signature neutral color palette.
